Cube Combat is a client server based game. This means, one player must open a game so that other players may join it.
Playing on the lan is quite easy. To start a game goto the lan server menu page (play → local network → create), set the server options and click play. Tell the other players to join your game (play → local network → show list) and start playing. The following list explains the options you have on the server start page:
Server name: This should always be set, so your fellow players can identify your game on the lan (or internet).
Max players: The maximum number of players allowed on the server.
Player password: The password, that other players must enter when they want to join your game. An empty password disables this option.
Map limit: Maximum number of maps the game should last (0 = no limit).
Score limit: Maximum score a player can reach before a game ends (0 = no limit).
Time limit: Maximum time the game should last (0 = no limit).
AI players: Number of Computer players that should be in the game.
Playing on the internet is as easy as playing on the local network. Goto the internet server menu page (play → internet → create game). Select your options an click start. The other players can find your game using the menu point show game list (play → internet → show game list) or join your server by name (play → internet → join by name).
In contrast to a lan game, a internet server's name must be unique in respect to all other Cube Combat servers currently running in internet mode. The game will show you a error message if the name you have choosen is already in use.
The option public controls whether your server game is shown in other players game lists (play → internet → show game list). If public is set to false, the game can only be joined using the join by name menu.
It is generally not necessary to open a port if you are behind a router and want to run a Cube Combat internet server. Cube Combat uses Port Punching to establish connections between clients and a server that are behind routers. If you still encounter problems, make sure that your udp port 24782 is reachable from the outside and check your firewall settings.
